JAN BREWER, POPE JOHN PAUL II – PRESIDENT OBAMA, ERNESTO
CARDENAL
In 1983, at an outdoor Mass in Managua, Nicaragua, the
visiting Pope John Paul II wagged his finger at a kneeling Ernesto Cardenal—a Roman
Catholic priest who had become a leading figure in the Sandinista government.
Was Jan Brewer mindful of the powerful impact of the image circulated around
the world of that confrontation two decades ago? Maybe so, maybe not. But, Jan
Brewer is no John Paul II.
